Strengthen what you've learned in previous classes and begin your off-leash training as you expose your dog to important agility basics in our safe, indoor, controlled environment. Dogs have an amazing sense of smell and a natural desire to hunt. "K9 Nose Work" is a fun new sport that's sweeping the nation, and J9'sK9s is proud to bring you this terrific, six week class to get you started! You'll learn to use scent detection training to give your dog a fun activity that will build confidence, burn lots of mental and physical energy. Whether or not you decide to compete for titles in NACSW (National Association of Canine Scent Work) Trials, you and your dog will have a blast!

Ramona Audette, Certified K9 Nose Work Instructor, will work with participants one-on-one, teaching observational skills and handling techniques that support the dogs in successfully locating odors in "hides" of varying difficulty.

CANINE GOOD CITIZEN
THERAPY DOG PREPARATION CLASS
PREREQUISITE: DOG MUST HAVE COMPLETED AN ADVANCED CLASS AT J9'sK9s. AND BE PRE-APPROVED BY A J9'sK9s INSTRUCTOR.
An awesome J9'sK9s class to prepare students and their dogs for the American Kennel Club's (AKC) Canine Good Citizen Test (known as CGC). The CGC is a certification program that is designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community. Passing the CGC test is an excellent first step for anyone considering therapy work with their canine companion!
This class will focus on the ten components of the test including loose leash walking, remaining calm while approaching people and other dogs, sit stay for petting and handling, and supervised separation. In addition, many in-class exercises are designed to familiarize dogs and their owners with behaviors and requirements needed to become a Certified Therapy Dog.
The J9'sK9s CGC/Therapy Dog Prep Class is eight weeks long, consisting of one hour sessions each week, and includes participation in an official CGC test which will be held on the last day of class for students who'd like to give it a try.

STREET SMARTS & WILDERNESS WALKS
PREREQUISITE: DOG MUST HAVE COMPLETED AN INTERMEDIATE CLASS AT J9'sK9s AND BE PRE-APPROVED BY A J9'sK9s INSTRUCTOR.
The "Street Smarts" sessions in our Advanced courses became so popular that we decided to offer whole classes of them!
Street Smarts classes are held in the San Fernando and San Gabriel Valleys. Your instructor will take you on six fun-filled weekly outings - terrific socialization for you and your pooch. You'll learn practical application of all those great skills you've picked up in your previous J9'sK9s classes. Each session will end with a fifteen minute question and answer period where we will address all your canine concerns!
You'll be meeting at different places throughout the class including locations in Sherman Oaks, Chatsworth, Studio City, Burbank, and Old Town Pasadena.
"Wilderness Walks" is a Street Smarts style class in a natural environment! Use the many skills you've learned in your J9'sK9s classes while enjoying six weekly scenic walks along various nature trails in the San Fernando Valley and surrounding areas.
Sometimes we even combine the two types of classes so you get the best of both worlds in the "Urban Wilderness Walks" class! Play-train with your canine buddy in a great mix of distracting urban environments (such as shopping centers and pedestrian malls) and picturesque nature settings throughout the San Fernando Valley.

Canine Freestyle is sweeping the nation - and you don't even have to be able to dance to swing with your pooch!
Two levels of class are offered, plus the newly added Foundations Workshop Series - all taught by Certified Canine Freestyle Instructor Janine Pierce! In the Intro to Freestyle class, we'll cover basic moves and introduce the building blocks of creating a dance routine with your dog. This class includes a training manual, an audio CD and a video DVD, and incorporates dual-sided heelwork, fun group dances and more!
In the Beginner Level class, you'll learn about choosing the right music for you and your canine partner, plus explore more advanced choreography concepts like transitions, locomotor movements, axial movements, rhythm heeling, and creating opening and closing pictures. In both classes we'll help you work on focus, incorporate and refine behaviors your dog already knows, plus throw a few new tricks into your performance. You and your dog will have a blast in the process!

BARK AFTER DARK! By popular demand...Two classes! 7:00 p.m. or 8:15 p.m. Both classes are $60 per dog and include two sessions of off leash fun for you and your pooch! P LEASE NOTE: This is not a class to teach your dog to get along with other dogs. Excessive wrestling while off-leash will not be allowed, and dogs that cannot be redirected to other activities will be put back on leash and asked to leave the training arena for a cooling-off period. Is nail trimming a stressful procedure for you and your pooch? Join us for a four week workshop where we'll help you improve your dog's tolerance to foot handling and nail trimming - a great way to reduce unnecessary stress in his life and yours! We'll explain the anatomy of the nail, types of tools available and useful tricks of the trade, plus design and help you implement a custom training program for your dog. Dogs with severe reactions to handling their paws or nails will also be taught to calmly accept wearing a muzzle to ensure the safety of owners, veterinarians and groomers.

Greeting Manners Workshop

Dogs with EGD frequently greet humans by jumping up on them, much to the embarrassment of their owners. A very special, four-week Class held for our Advanced Class graduates almost exclusively off-leash! We'll work on stays, recalls, play skills and owner check-in around distractions, as well as incorporate many of the fun training games common in J9'sK9s classes - but with the added twist of working off-leash! | Dogs must not have issues with arousal/aggression toward dogs or people, and must have a good working recall. We'll work to make it even better in class, but you need a decent foundation to participate. It's not too late to start practicing! You should be able to maintain your dog's attention and focus (with the use of YOU, treats and toys) around other dogs. Dogs who interfere with other dogs will be put on leash. | |||
